Confederate States of America Army, Georgia 49th Infantry Regiment letter, 1865.

This collection consists of a letter from the commissioned officers of the 49th Regiment to Col. W.H. Taylor, March 15, 1865, containing proposal to General Robert E. Lee that the regiment be permitted to include conscripted African American soldiers in its ranks. It is signed by the Regimental Officers and Captains. The collection also includes Mark Newman's letter of transmittal.
